WEll I heard a different version of this fireball.

It was an alien space craft. Fighters were dispatched from Colorado and South Dakota air force bases. It was a heated dog fight at first, till one of the fighters shot it down. The remains were quickly rounded up and headed for area 51.

No, the shockwave associated to the sonic boom would have very very little, if anything, to to do with breaking up of the meteor. Aircraft break the sound barrier all the time. Nearly all meteors will break up simply due to the heat and pressure associated to the frictional forces of the atmosphere. As far as breaking the sound barrier...yeah...the asteroid could hit the atmosphere at a speed several times that of the speed of sound.

Just as an update and in case anyone is interested, my DIL tells me that a few other people in the area also saw the fireball.
