If you were going to do an inter-Nebraska vacation, where would you go? What's your favorite place in the state, outside of where you live?

Well if I were to go other than the sandhills. Indian Cave State Park, always enjoyed the place or Ft. Robinson also.

I'm from the Omaha metro area, so f I didn't mind traveling I'd do a tour of the Sandlhills, Panhandle, and PineRidge area.. probably something like Highway 92 to Grand Island, Highway 2 up to Highway 358 then circle back to Omaha via the northern route on Highway 20 onto 275... That would circle the state and take you thru all of those areas... from that route you can divert to specific things you want to see. Just that loop around the state would be around 1,000 miles, so very doable...

Niobrara State Park.
I also really like Halsey as well as Chadron and/or Ft. Rob.

Want more of an "urban vacation?"
I love North Platte.

I forgot about Mahoney. Love that place! Platte River State Park is nice too. I love climbing the observation tower.

Just in the past few years, they have really developed Mahoney into a wonderful place. Hope I can get out there before the end of summer.

Valentine/Niobrara/Merritt Reservoir

Merritt Reservoir has fantastic, ocean like beaches... often you'll find you're the only one on a stretch of a few hundred feet... and of course if you like to fish.

Snake, Smith, and Fort Falls... beautiful. Fort Niobrara Wildlife Refuge, wildlife drive.

Tubing/kayaking/canoeing the Niobrara

I go up every year for the Nebraska Star Party ( The Nebraska Star Party )... which I like to think is worth the trip alone... NSP 16 just concluded... next year it will be held in early August.

I can't wait to take the Highway 2 Scenic Byway. Atleast that's what I THINK it's called.
