I flew yesterday from JFK to San Francisco and got a clear shot of this town in either Nebraska, Wyoming or Colorado after the clouds cleared out.
I'm trying to track the flight path and knowing where this town is on the map would be great in doing so.
thanks.

Definately not Ainsworth, NE as the windfarm there is located south of town 2-3 miles. Perhaps Bloomfield, NE? Haven't they built a windfarm near that town?

Further, are those windfarms to the North? I think I see shadowing on some buildings (possibly grain elevators) that points to the right. Assuming this was taken later in the day that would mean the windfarms are to the North. But if its taken early enough then the shadows could be pointing north and the windfarms could be west of the town. However, since the shadows look pretty long I would say they are the result of a low sun and not a zenith sun you would see during midday. So, I'm going with the assumption the windfarm is to the north of town. Does this fit your timeline?

I would also add that there appears to be a small airport at the edge of town, which I'm presuming to be east, and there appears to be "badlands" north of the windfarm. The badlands would probably rule out bloomfield.

According to the Nebraska website, the only windfarms in Nebraska that would come be roughly the size you see in the picture (16 turbines) would be in Bloomfield, Kimball, Crofton, and Ainsworth. Doing a quick google earth view, none appear to be matches. I'll leave it to someone else to scour Wyoming, Colorado, or SD.

I'm pretty sure that the windfarms and badlands were to the south of the town. We were flying west and i was looking out from the south window.

Ahh, I can't look anymore. If it helps anyone, I do believe the windfarm is to the north. Also, you can see what appears like a road coming in form the east side of town which is actually a railroad so that should narrow it down. There is also a 4 lane separated highway coming in from the south.

It really looks like it's s/w NE or n/w Kansas. I don't think it's WY or CO.

Ah thanks, that helps. I was turned around. So you were definitely headed towards SF and sitting on the left side of the plane?
