Yes, you really busted your ass while collecting off the taxpayers for your "free" degree. I'd be ashamed to claim that I got my college education for free. BTW, being a freaking lawyer is nothing to be proud of. Lawyers are leaches in America, or perhaps you didn't know that "free education" boy.

My daddy's a lawyer...
(Who put himself through law school via scholarships, Nat'l Guard and construction jobs, btw. lol)
And my husband got his Bachelor's mostly via Pell Grants. It behooves Uncle Sam to have an educated populace.
Generally speaking, we pay more in taxes. lol

BTW, matt payed his own way by keeping his grades high enough to get scholarships. Not quite the same as my dear husband who got charity, pure and simple.

This is my last post in this thread. Tear this apart all you want. GraniteStater please close this thread as you have done to most threads I post in.

This morning I was awoken by my alarm clock powered by electricity generated by the public power monopoly regulated by the US department of energy. I then took a shower in the clean water provided by the municipal water utility. After that, I turned on the TV to one of the FCC regulated channels to see what the national weather service of the national oceanographic and atmospheric administration determined the weather was going to be like using satellites designed, built, and launched by the national aeronautics and space administration. I watched this while eating my breakfast of US department of agriculture inspected food and taking the drugs which have been determined as safe by the food and drug administration.
At the appropriate time as regulated by the US congress and kept accurate by the national institute of standards and technology and the US naval observatory, I get into my national highway traffic safety administration approved automobile and set out to work on the roads build by the local, state, and federal departments of transportation, possibly stopping to purchase additional fuel of a quality level determined by the environmental protection agency, using legal tender issed by the federal reserve bank. On the way out the door I deposit any mail I have to be sent out via the US postal service and drop the kids off at the public school.
After spending another day not being maimed or killed at work thanks to the workplace regulations imposed by the department of labor and the occupational safety and health administration, enjoying another two meals which again do not kill me because of the USDA, I drive my NHTSA car back home on the DOT roads, to ny house which has not burned down in my absence because of the state and local building codes and fire marshal's inspection, and which has not been plundered of all it's valuables thanks to the local police department.
I then log on to the internet which was developed by the defense advanced research projects administration and post on freerepublic.com and fox news forums about how SOCIALISM in medicine is BAD because the government can't do anything right.

Synopsis,

What the hell are you talking about? I received my education for free because I had scholarships and I was paid to do research for the University! Meaning I EARNED that money! And i was paid for because I was freaking capable of doing work that about 98% of people can't (e.g., high level math, quantum mechanics, and etc.). Meaning I received an education and a modest salary for providing the University with my math and science skills. It was NOT government money, they were privately donated scholarships and salary paid to me through dollars MY research brought into the university. Where in the heck do you get the idea that I leached off society?? Good lord how pathetic. I brought money INTO university with my research. Not to mention, based on your little thought on the issue every highschool kid out there that receives a scholarship should be "ashamed' of him/herself. Are you flipping kidding me?? I don't know if I have ever heard such ignorant b.s. Again, I wasn't "given" anything...I earned my education, period.

Finally, some lawyers are leeches, sure. But so are some doctors, dentists, construction workers, and teachers. If you're incapable of figuring it out, having a Ph.D. in physics and a law degree probably will not make me a typical attorney. The area of law I work is accessible by about 1% of the population and has nothing to do with the ambulance chasing stereotype you have in your head.

Nitemare,

Nah, I don't love to hate you. I'm a non-creationalist agnostic pro-gay marriage republican. Anyway, we can once again agree to disagree.

Just a couple comments: Michael Moore would be the opposite of Rush Limbaugh, in my opinion.

A Health Care bill is, presently, formless. The mistake that reactionaries are making is the fear of exploration thereof...the assumption that it will become bureaucracy between modern medical discoveries and you.

The attempts to improve our present system should be about lowering costs for the "already covered." This fear that someone will get something for nothing or not deserve care, at the expense of the American property owner is just that--fear.

We need ideas about how to make deductibles and premiums, affordable. How to continue intelligent research, incentives for challenging medical professions, and placing medicine in under served areas without breaking the economy is open to discussion. Do any of us know what, exactly, is proposed? And, further, how to 'word' a bill so that it isn't hijacked?

This terrorism of 'government' smacks of Timothy McVey and discounts that no one doesn't get their social security check on time and no one objects to sidewalks and paved roads. Government often improves how we live and, usually, does not get in the way. In fact, it takes care of business that I am too busy, with my private enterprises, to do. For instance, I do not have to form a posse when my cattle are stolen. I can call the sheriff and then, get on with my business. (And you have relative assurance that I won't shoot you before I realize you were moving them to better pasture, for me. :-)

Due to government, I can be reasonably assured that the chlorine in the municipal swimming pool is balanced, or someone will pay. The teachers at my school are certified to have knowlege of their subject. I can present new rules for drunk drivers when I'm MADD. These, and many more, are things that are not often considered by the fear mongers. It's possible that Universal Health Care will not socialize us, but continue the system that we know and see faltering.

Stopping the discussion and proposals is wrong. Recognition that 2/3 of the value of our incomes is about what we pay for coverage, deductibles and care is destructive to Main Street, is needed. Something NEW must occurr.

Matt:
I applaud you. You have proven what can be accomplished with hard work and dedication. You are not only an inspiration you are an example to those that always say the deck is stacked against them, or that the playing field is not level; you know the mantra. Your story is in fact "the American dream".

Nebraska elected him because he was a moderate democrat...NOT because they want someone to take marching orders from Ted Kennedy.

Do I agree with him on everything? Absolutely not. But I love the fact that he's willing to say no to the democrat power base. I also used to love Hagel for the same reason. I wish Johanns would run against the grain though. I'm not a big fan of him at all. Bottom line is if a politician says yes to his party on all issues then he's nothing but an empty suit and I have no need for him. Nelson, all in all, has been a pretty good senator.

I agree with Matt on this.

Not true. The bill currently in the House (HR3200) is available online. Please read - I encourage all to read.

Is it 'rash' to say that any proposal bill is formless? Law makers will be pushing and pulling the floating blob.

Open for discussion--I hope. Closing off explanations and refinements and ideas, due to fear of socialism, and ending the idea of reforming the current system is not a good idea. And I fear that the political opposition is incendiary to the public where many cannot relate to the actual economics.

I know what I spend on insurance and care. I just do not always get the rationale for the extreme expense and wonder how others are handling it.
And, then, I wonder how it leaves any money in the till for purchases that keep the economy going???
