Sorry about the cross post but this seemed like an active thread to ask this question...

We are relocating to the area. I will be working near the Henderson Executive Airport. Housing seems like it high priced and crowded. We currently live in very rural Central Florida. I've bee looking on line for houses and Pahrump has the kind of homes we would like but the commute to Henderson has us concerned. Currently I commute 45 minutes in the morning and an hour or more on I 4 bumper to bumper traffic at night. I don't mind the drive but the bumper to bumper stop and go traffic is miserable.
What am I looking at for a commute from the Pahrump area to the Henderson Airport?

Thanks.

PV 4 Wheelers welcomes all types of off road vehicles but they are primarily jeepsters. One of their members mentioned an ATV/UTV group, Geezers. I can't find anything on this group. Anyone have contact info on them? I'd appreciate it.

Another matter. Up where we live there are not a lot of sick old people. Response times are such that that Golden Hour, or whatever, is often spent with 1st responders trying to find the address. So I'm wondering if there is a local hospital sufficient to address immediate concerns until transport to LV is arranged.

Thanks again for info.

kozmic - commute times from pahrump to henderson executive airport will be at least an hour & 15 mins. that's WITHOUT traffic. if you are commuting during the traditional "rush hour" times, it will take an hour & 45 mins or so. if you bring up a map, hwy 160 (blue diamond rd) & fort apache rd is where the traffic really starts. it won't be bumper to bumper. it won't be stop & go, but until this intersection, there really isn't any traffic to speak of. personally? i wouldn't make this commute. i commuted from pahrump to the strip during rush hour traffic for 3 yrs. i hated every minute i spent in traffic. the only other option for you would be either the town of blue diamond (on hwy 159, just south of red rock canyon) or the town of enterprise (just south of the town of blue diamond, surrounding hwy 160/blue diamond rd). both places can give you the rural-ish feel, but the commute times are easier to live with.

*please note, NDOT is currently working on widening the 2 lanes going over the hill, so there is road construction traffic which will lengthen commute times. phase one is scheduled for completion summer 2017. phase two is scheduled to begin in 2018

cekkk - this is the only info i could find on the geezers group, it's not exactly current but it does mention a group on fb
Old Geezer's Group

as for emergency response times, our dispatchers know just about every inch of the valley & their maps are pretty darn current. for us regular people to drive from one end of the valley to the other would take...45 mins max. emergency vehicles, with their pretty little lights flashing, can probably make it in 1/2 that time. the ONLY hospital we have here in town is desert view - Desert View Hospital Pahrump Nevada - they are a 25 private bed facility, located in the middle of town. the ambulance barn & firehouse are located on the corner of basin & hwy 160 (across from home depot). the hosptial is on wilson, but can be accessed via basin. depending on how serious your injuries, they will life flight you into vegas. we have a hard time keeping specialists here at our hospital, so i can't tell you that they have the best cardiologist or the best entomologists on staff as the staff keeps changing. i can tell you the staff they do have is very dedicated & you will receive the best care available.

Entomologist. One who studies ents. Or ants. Or is it Aunts? I used to date an aunt. Not mine. After a few "study dates" I'd learned all that I needed to know about that particular aunt. On to other's other relatives. Found a good one. She's an aunt, too. Auntomology.

I'll check out that FB page if I can find it. Thanks.

BTW, are there Over 55 Brothels? If not, I may have found a niche market.

there's a new place to eat coming to town!!! whoop whooop earlier this year we were teased about it in the newspaper, but it's finally coming true.

dickey's bbq pit will be opening in the albertson's shopping center on hwy 160 next month! it will be directly next door to denney's. i've heard it should be open august 11. i will wait for the crowd to die down before trying it out. hubby tried it in vegas & said it was pretty tasty

Okay, Pahrumpers, we'd like to know a few things before our visit. Here's a couple questions.

1. How financially secure is the "city" water company?
2. How reliable is their water source? Longevity?
3. How reliable are private/group wells, that is, do they ever dry up even for brief periods?
4. Does anyone drink any of the water sources out of the tap?
5. Do homes in the safer parts of town and further out in the country often have barred windows/doors?
6. Is there any commuter plane service to LV?
7. What is the average length of time a $250 - $300k home is on the market?

If you can collectively answer some/all of those, I'll have a few more. Thanks.

Oh yeah! What do you call yourselves?? (And I'm not looking for "Good Looking!"

here are my answers, but i'm hoping some other locals will give some input as well!

we have 2 utilities company here in town - utilities inc (Utilities Inc.) & pahrump utility company (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pahru...53911681314986). utilities inc isn't locally based & their customer service dept is severely lacking. pahrump utility company IS locally run & has been here for years.

Pahrump Utility Company debunks water myths | PV Times

i've heard there were wells on the south end of town that DID run dry, but it wasn't just cuz. there was panic in the streets that the county was going to reduce our water rights, a "use it or lose it" type of mentality & some people decided to run their water for long period of times just cuz, which caused surrounding land owners to have problems with their wells. that panic has subsided at this point.

i do drink water out of the tap, it tastes perfectly fine.

where to purchase in town - personally i'm not impressed with the extreme south end of town, down by the brothels. there are a bunch of streets with native american names that look quite trashy (single & double wides with trash in the yards). i can't say i've seen a lot of homes with bars on the windows.

we have 1 local airport on the nort side of town, right off hwy 160 (Calvada Meadows Private Airport NV74) (https://www.airnav.com/airport/NV74)

i have no idea how long stuff stays on the market, but i do know that homes in that price range do not fly off the shelves. average home price is ~$200k. those homes that are over $300k stay on the market for a while.....

i call us "pahrumpians", not sure what others here in town call us. i'm quite sure most of las vegas calls us some uncomplimentary names.

I was hoping to visit this week, but the dentist had other ideas. With being busy packing for the move and DW's next two Friday's dedicated to a perm and coloring, then a long preplanned vacation, Lord only knows when we'll get there for a look-see.

I'm wondering what summer electric bills are there. We don't need ac here and the only big gobbler of current is the water heater, and our bill is about 90. Bet a cool 2000 sq. ft. home runs low hundreds. Right?
