I felt the Tonopah earthquake here in central Las Vegas. I just happened to be awake. I sleep on the floor, second story, so I could feel it. I also heard my building creak. The shaking lasted only a second or two. It happened a little after 4:00AM so most people would never have felt it since they were likely asleep (in a bed).

I felt the one based in Searles, CA yesterday evening while having dinner. 6:32 p.m. For a few moments, I wondered why I became very dizzy and the couch was swaying left to right. We live directly on a fault line here in North Las Vegas.

You felt a 5.5 aftershock of last year's 7.1 earthquake near Ridgecrest, CA.

We had a really strange earthquake in Carson City a few months ago, it felt and sounded like an explosion and I had to hang onto furniture to steady myself. My bathroom vanity was opening and slamming shut so hard, I was afraid it was going to crack. Maybe if it's really close it feels explosive like this because normally I feel more of a rolling motion when they hit.

Here are some local news articles about earthquake activity in Nevada, including the 4.5 quake I mentioned above:

If you're close to an earthquake, it won't be a roller, it will be more of a shaker. Think of the waves in a pool after a rock is thrown in.

Yes, it was right in Carson City.

I always feel a little better when these manageable earthquakes hit because maybe they are releasing pressure so a big quake is not needed...

In 2012 or so, I was living in Hawthorne, CA in a second floor apartment. Underneath was a storage area. I heard a huge crash and the building rocked. I thought the owners must have tried to move an old upright piano into storage and had accidentally dropped it. Later I found out it was a quake.

We definitely have earthquake activity here in the West (California is ranked #2 and Nevada #4 most earthquake prone state), but I would rather deal with earthquakes and some wildfire risk than hurricanes and tornadoes....so far in my lifetime the activity is steady, but smaller quakes and little damage here in Northern Nevada...
