I currently live in Kansas City, and I am looking to move later this summer so far in the list of places I have Vegas, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, Orange County, or Albuquerque. For the past few years or so I’ve been living off and on in Denver and may move back there as well. Right now I have 12 grand saved up so far. Pre-Covid I was bartending, but now I work for a major retail store, so transferring to a store out there should’t be a problem, it would be only temporary until I can get a better paying job until after getting settled in. I am looking to rent an apartment and my max budget $1150. What are some good neighborhoods in that price range or for even less ? I’’ve only been here once back in 2004 but wasn’t old enough to check out Vegas back then.

Vegas is about to implode economically. Pick somewhere else if you want any financial security or have any plans for the future.

Southern California is out of your price range, unless you want to live in a slum.

Looking like AZ is your best bet. Good luck in your endeavors.

Unless you want roomates you should probably rule out OC and SD since you likely won't find much on that budget. Honestly even LV and Phoenix are starting to get expensive as well... wouldn't call them high COL areas like coastal California, but medium COL for sure. As for cost, probably Alb is lowest cost, with LV next lowest cost. I live in OC and hope to move to Vegas next year, it's too expensive for me to stay here long term. For bartending probably Vegas is the best move but I dont know much about Alb other than Breaking Bad episodes so can't comment on that lol.

I always give the same advice: go where you find the best job in a place in which you can tolerate living.

DO NOT move to Portland It is a freaking cesspool with homeless camps all over destroying the city's beauty. It is DISGUSTING and the cost of living is ridiculous. I would look at Vegas. It's been growing nd there is much more to it than the Strip. I have several family members who live there and they all love it. I can't say about rent but houses are not too bad and property taxes are low. I also have a cousin in AZ and he loves it there.

I am hoping to convince my spouse to go to Las Vegas mostly I want to be closer to my mom. I think I can adjust to the heat.
