Smile when you say that, partner.

So "the rest" like Incline Village and Stateline (Lake Tahoe) or little Minden (Douglas County) is "a dump?" Humm, I don't beg to disagree. I plain old disagree.

There is a whole lot of natural beauty, recreational avenues, and local color in those areas. They are far from dumps so I think you may have painted a little broadly, and gorssly inaccurately, with that brush.

In fact, one of the top 100 highest priced properties in the world is listed up on Lake Tahoe. I believe it's something like $100,000,000. For only that one factor, it sounds pretty far from "a dump" as anyone can get.

sshh Garth, let the world think the rest of Nevada is a dump. Nevada has two properties which are appealing, some of the most spectacular landscapes in America, and few people out there throwing beer cans.

You are talking about tiny pockets of wealth and beauty. I'm talking about the population density. Look at the total population of NV, then look at the numbers for Las Vegas, Clark County & Henderson.

Using your logic, I could say that L.A. is a great place because it has Beverly Hills.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate". Sorry.

Water exports to the So Cal cities is really not an issue. The water of the Colorado goes primarily to So Cal agriculture. It is the vast farms of the So Cal valleys that suck it up.

Note that they were here and sucking up the water long before Las Vegas cared.

I think your statement, "the rest is a dump" is the problem. If you are a fan of asphalt and concrete, you are right. If you are not a fan of asphalt and concrete you are wrong, delightfully so.

2. Hookers Galore
3. Dessert = No scenery
4. Ugly little towns with disgusting bathrooms
5. Ranked 2nd most dangerous state (next to Louisiana)
6. Ugly campgrounds
7. Mean people
8. No history except VA city
9. To overpriced
10. Nothing but casions everywhere. Even in chevrons!

You saw hookers galore just driving by Vegas!?!?! You're from Cali and think Vegas is too overpriced!?!!?!?!?! No History!?!?!?! I have yet to see a casino in a gas station although most of them do have slots. If you met enough mean people while driving by to put it in your top ten, I would have to wonder what it is about you that attracts so many mean people. Skewed perspective aside, everything you saw while "driving by" is what makes Vegas so colorful. One thing is for sure, you can't say we ain't got no flavor.

The winds are the one thing I've yet to get used to. We're getting pretty congested but I'm an L.A. native so I do congestion well. All the beauty of the desert and its rich history that I could point out would be a repetition of what 15 pages of others have been telling you so I'll leave you with this thought -- get an education, get a life, expand your horizons....whatever, but please do something or people are gonna think you live under a rock. Open yourself up to views and knowledge of others by evaluating these 15 pages of responses and truly recognize what is being said.

Happy trails.
