Is gambling still illegal in Boulder City? If so, is it the only community in Nevada that has done this?

Is anyone from Boulder City? What is it like to live in a "normal" city in Nevada with no gambling or casinos everywhere? Do people ever move out there from Las Vegas just for that? It seems to me if I had a job in Vegas, I would rather live somewhere without gambling.

If you think it is so great, why don't you just move there then? They are the worst suburb of Las Vegas with an overactive police department that likes to profile people. That is my personal opinion.

Come on, LVD, there was no reason to jump on him for his question. He wasn't putting down Vegas, he's just looking for a place with no gambling.

To the OP: You might want to ask questions about Boulder City on the general NV forum rather than the one dedicated to Las Vegas. Here is a thread from that forum that addresses Boulder City issues:

A cursory review of that thread indicates that you are correct: there is no gambling in B.C.

Sometimes my tone comes across as rude even know I am not trying to be. I was merely pointing out that Boulder City would not be a great place to live. They do not like people moving there either.

If you don't like gambling then just don't go to casinos. I'm not a gambler and that is exactly what I do even though I live a few blocks away from multiple casinos.

That's one heck of a sensible answer, nick.

There are lots of "normal" cities and towns in Nevada. It doesn't mean that they are deviant in any way because they have casinos here and there. Believe me, I've lived in several towns and cities in the state and am not a gambler either. I don't find it that much different or "abnormal" than living in other states. I just ignore the casinos ...unless I want to pig out at a buffet.

Are you also on the dave's esl cafe korea forums? I'm a former esl teacher who was in Korea with this same ID on both forums

Anyways, my wife lived in Henderson/Vegas for years, so I became quite familiar with the city.

Boulder City is quite a bit more expensive than Vegas. You basically have to 'pay' to live in that particular small town - it is nice though.

Regarding the gambling...from my many stays in Vegas well off the Strip. Life pretty much goes on everywhere throughout Las Vegas & Henderson just like they would anywhere else. The only real difference is you have the world famous 'Strip' smack dab in the middle of things.

The gambling aspect certainly exists in Vegas...but if you aren't on the Strip, and you are just doing normal things - malls, libraries, or whatever else you do in any other city, pretty much occurs exactly the same in Vegas. I don't think you'd have to move to Boulder City to get away from that.

I think what does attract people to Boulder City is that it has a town feel, compared to the very suburban-like feel of Vegas/Henderson.

Boulder does not have gambling because it was started as a Federal company town, it housed the workers on Boulder Dam.

Thinking that gambling makes a town different than a town without gambling is peculiar, I think.

Wow, I would never pay more to live somewhere to have less options.

I am by no means a big gambler.. but if I want to go play penny slots and I live in a state where its legal.. no town is going to tell me I cant.. lolol

Seriously.. I got a very creepy vibe from Boulder City. Only been there once and I felt like I was being watched the whole time. Like I was some kind of outsider. Kinda creepy. I dont look any different than most of them.. so no idea why I got the "look" as if they were all asking "What are you doing here"

Ahh well..

You can drive to just outside the BC city limits to find a casino such as Railroad Pass Hotel & Casino There are many casinos a short drive from BC.
