I'm in Portsmouth, NH and want to head up north for photo shots of the nicest fields of lupines.
I know the NH Lupine Festival just ran June 4-20. Just discovered that today which is ok, because I'd rather just focus on photography instead of whole festival (will of course, pay my patronage to my northern NH neighbor establishments while there tho).
Am looking more for names of fields, parks, routes, streets in the names of best towns where the lupines are plentiful.
a ride on route 117 in the Sugar Hill area should yield you some good pics, fields abound so do farms and quaint churches, many places will get you a mountain backdrop..go..NOW!
Sugar Hill is the place to go. You can spend hours there taking photos. Go into one of the local stores (Harman's Cheese, Polly's Pancake Parlor, etc.) and ask for one of the Lupine Festival guide books (assuming they still have copies left over) -- they have maps of all the lupine fields in town.
There's also a small but often-photographed lupine field right off Route 302 near the southern entrance of Crawford Notch State Park, with a view towards Mt. Washington.
We were in Sugar Hill over the weekend. Lots of Lupine. There are also some fields in Landaff. Just head up hill on Mill Brook Road from Lisbon on Rt 302 and drive around.
A logging road??? of Rt 3 between Francoina and the Mt Cleveland over look has a lot seemingly wild. If you go there it is on the north side of Rt 3, unmarked, so you will need to look as you drive by each one. In Jackso the road to Tyroll (sp) is lined with them. Rt 115 has a over look and across the street are many. Rt 116 has smatterings here and there, some wild some in yards.
Rt 117 has the most and in places anyone can go for free.
I wasn't able to get there in mid-June (after my post), but the mountains, fields and rustic scenery made for some great shots!
I've got a friend coming into town at the end of this month so will probably head back up since I could've spent alot more time there than just one day.
Thanks again!
