On Tuesday, a black bear entered a house in Laconia, N.H., munched on some pears and grapes left on a kitchen counter, and drank some water (plus a few fish) from a fishbowl before picking up a stuffed teddy bear.
As WMUR News reported, the bear, who had come in through a sliding glass door that had been left open, was apparently scared off when the family returned home.
the bear had to be still in the house when the owners got home because the two fish in the fishbowl were still alive - one was flopping on the counter, one was in the remains of the water.
The culprit was described as a 100 pound bear - but it doesn't appear that anybody actually saw it. Guessing they went by smell?
Maybe in the future, she'll learn to shut her door when she leaves home.
There's a lot of bear activity in the Laconia area. I seen one last year run right up White Oaks Road near the Weirs. Lol, for a mintue I thought it was a big black-lab dog There are several active dens in Meredith near the Laconia city line on Parade Road.
Lots of bear around this year. maybe 2 weeks back not far from here (where I live) I saw bear 9 of the season. The next day weeding a dog we live with sauntered up by the garden from the back side and i about lost my mind. The one day i didn't have a gun on for a moment.
Worked out the same since it was the dog, and had it been a bear if i were armed i would only maybe called first and fired a warning shot last. About the only way i would shoot a bear is if i were caught between cubs and mama and then i would do anything i could to avoid it.
Summer bear isn't much good for anything anyway. They are all stringy meat in summer, and have a thin coat. Just no good for much.
