I hope people take db77's list of what "we all" believe with a grain of salt. Last I knew, there were millions of people in New England who thought for themselves and were capable of voicing their own likes, dislikes and opinions.

You know, that doesn't sound very warm to me, making such a rude generalization of 24.2 million people. I'm sure, however, that you have plenty of personal experience living among those 24.2 million people to back that up.

Big thumbs up, Annabelle.

You guys need to lighten up.

My little list wasn't meant to be interpreted literally annabelle and I said most not all people in southern CA. Yes I've been there and I feel the people there are far more obsessed with looks and superficial concerns than we are here. That is my opinion.

Wow.......there are a lot of sensitive people in NH apparently.....I took DB's list completely as tongue in cheek........and I would be completely shocked if that's not how it was intended......

Do they not have a sense of humor in NH either or is that too much of a generalization too.......

Well Viper it was meant as an attempt at tongue in cheek humor based on generalizations. I'm from NH and I don't take myself so seriously.

I say what I mean. I find southern Cali shallow and I'll tell you that. If there's something you don't like about my beloved NH and want to tell me I'm fine with that too. Oh and I really do hate the state of Vermont. If anyone reading this likes it there.....I'm happy for you........just don't ask me to come visit.

db's post is the first CD post I've read in quite awhile, and it's nice to see a post with a bit of dry New England humor. Too many regulars have gone bye-bye, but at one time, this forum was more that just a place to get relocation info from. But, come to think of it, the forum exists solely for that reason, so enjoy a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor while it's posted We'll be back to the same old-same old PC informative posts soon enough...

I've met many folks who live or have lived in SoCal that would be 100% in agreement with db77's comment. Some of them are trying to get away from that whole mindset, the value system, etc. One of them is CaptJob, who we haven't heard from in awhile...

No, I asked if you have lived there. No? Been there, huh? Yes, sounds like vast personal experience to me. How many people do you personally know in California? Or your other hated state, Vermont? You know, where all the people are pretentious?

Hey Viper, tell me where the humor is in this statement: "The people here are not fake and superficial like most people in southern CA are . . . " This was not meant as a humorous statement, it is rude, ignorant and this person has absolutely no personal experience living in that state or knowing any of those people. So saying "most people" and not "all people" makes it okay?

How about this: The people in southern California are not ignorant and narrow-minded like most people in New Hampshire are. Now that's funny, eh?

Of course, I personally would never say that, because I know that people are all different, wherever you go in the world. I, however, have actually lived in New Hampshire for five years now, and have met nice people, not-nice people, smart people, backward people, friendly people, rude people, interesting people, shallow people, you know, people. I have met the same in California.

People are all different, everywhere in the world. I think it is sad that some people in this forum choose to paint anybody outside of their narrow sphere of experience in such broad strokes, especially when they have no personal experience of living in other places. Luckily for me, I don't believe that most people in New Hampshire are like that.

Valerie, of the "many folks who live or have lived in SoCal" that you've met, would you say that most of them are fake and superficial? You seem to respect their opinions.

One of the reasons I'm sure you have less participation in this forum is because a lot of people, such as myself, get really tired of the slamming of people from states other than your own, and the really tiresome belief that everybody in New Hampshire agrees with the ultra-right-wing beliefs of some of the more frequent posters in this forum.

c2shinignc obviously thinks I'm not entitled to my own opinion (which I stated) of the people of southern California or anywhere else.

You obviously don't like me and I don't care for you so why don't you just ignore me and I'll return the favor in kind.

I think you hit the nail on the head Valerie. I say what i think without trying to be overtly rude. People like c2shining see are politically correct and constantly worrying about offending this person or that person. I don't have time for that crap. I'd rather be honest and forthright and if someone says something I don't like I don't have a coronary over it. They have just as much right to their opinion as I do to mine and I'm OK with everyone not getting along.

I was raised in SoCal and have lived there for over 20 years (Central CA, now) and I generally agree with that assessment made by db77. I might even add that NorCal is not too far off from their siblings down south although when I do begin to think, I just think there are dumb/shallow people everywhere, a lot of them. I'm looking to move, out of state, am considering Portsmouth; I for one will never move back to SoCal.

I usually don't jump into arguments like these, but this time I think I'll post my two cents.

If someone wants to try to be politically correct about things, thats fine. I guess something just irked me about C2ShiningC's post, so think I will throw my towel into the ring.

db77 believes that the majority of the Californians that they have met were fake and superficial. That's db77's own opinion and experiences. Obviously they aren't going to list the 77 people that were not like that, and the 1,073 that were, just to make sure that everybody is accounted for. No, instead as humans we say most.

Now this was db77's own experiences and opinions. Everyone has there own opinions, have had different experiences, and there own interpretation on what is superficial.
