Maybe some of you who have lived here a while can fill me in, because this seems very wild:

Every 3rd website i look at someone is mentioning this horrible, terrible gang issue in Manchester! Now I know every city has bad parts and crime and what not, but looking around I just cant imagine.

Now im from Chicago, so maybe I'm a little jaded on what constitutes gang activity, but I just dont believe it.

Any info? I've got to find out.

Manchester is no Chicago, and is safer than many American cities of the same size or larger. That said: Manchester is not the city it was even 10 or 15 years ago. It's ok, but its future looks to be one of slow but steady decline IMO.

Compared to Chicago...no comparison. Even a "mediocre" area of Chicago is no comparison...

Brave- why a decline? Over the past few years we've lived here Manchester seems to be doing a lot better, has better places to go to, etc...

The nightlife has improved & the city has done a good job with the baseball stadium & the hockey stadium which have drawn in some nice places to eat & drink. The issues on which Manchester has failed are allowing the city to be a dumping ground for the massive resettlement of the world's poor. The large & growing use of "Section 8" housing. The welfare rules which are too lax in NH (that's the fault of the state).

You add that all together & you have trouble. You will be hard pressed to find many young, educated couples moving to Manchester to start families. Without those kind of families moving in......the city starts to die

Gotcha, I do know there is a huge effort underway to bring young professional folks to Nashua (which is working). I haven't researched if Manchester is doing much.

Nashua has the sense not to allow these various church groups from bringing in large numbers of resettlement families that are dificult to intergrate into city life & of course pay for.

As a Nashua resident, I'm interested in this. This is news to me. Care to post a link or some news articles?

IUGO is one more "known" organization I've heard of (iUGO). Here's an article from the Telegraph about something else: http://www.nashuatelegraph.com/busin...essionals.html. There are also ad-hoc "fun" sports teams recruiting folks, etc. In short- in the last 4 years I've become aware of a lot of new organizations/groups that are basically focused around fun, networking, and making this a good place to live for young professionals. Literally it seems that once you make a friend or two...opportunities just kind of start popping up to meet with similar age folks and socialize in a positive way and the number of folks involved has been exploding.
