Hi everyone,

We are going to be travelling to Portsmouth in about 3 1/2 weeks to look for a home to rent. Should we hire a realtor to help us look, and if so what companies should we look into - I've already checked out Olde Port Properties, McMaster Agency, and Keller Williams - which all seem fine.

Or should we just use Craigslist?

We have one opportunity in May to visit Portsmouth and find a house before we move there Memorial Day weekend. We will need to look at as many places as we can in two days.

Any other real estate agencies to check out? Other options?

Thanks!
Kate

Be REALLY careful using craigslist. There are many 'scrapped' listings and scams there. If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't. If the owner is out of town/out of the country/can't show you the interior of the unit until you send $$ (wire) and have provided your personal information in an application. My own (for sale) listings have been found on craiglist as REALLY cheap rentals ($750/month for a nice 3-bedroom home), and these scam artists are pretty good at pretending to be somebody they're not.

Thank you Valerie - we will definitely be careful. Now everytime I look at Craigslist, it's on my mind that it may be a scam. That's the LAST thing we need. Wherever we find, we will definitely go through a realtor. Thank you!!!
