Traffic from Concord to Manchester down 93 in the am is not bad, takes about 20 minutes, but once you hit Manchester and further south it is going to slow down. I would think it would be much easier if commuting to Boston, to consider Merrimack, Londonderry or the Exeter/seacoast area. My understanding from those who commute from the seacoast area down, is it is less traffic and an easier commute than from 3/93.

Hello

Has anyone done the opposite commute: Boston to Manchester? Is that better?
I am just looking at the possibility to move from Paris to Boston. My job would be based on Manchester.
Is that drive (Boston to Manchester) as horrible as the Concord-Boston commute you are discussing here?

Thanks so much for your advice!
ciao

In my opinion, driving Route 93 to Boston, even the "reverse commute" would become problematic. Road widening is scheduled to take place over the next several years, and while NH completes road work much faster than does Mass, it will be an ongoing process that will result in increased commute time no matter which direction you're heading in.

You may wish to consider Concord, or possibly Portsmouth which are much less "rural/suburban" than much of New Hampshire

I commuted from Manchester, NH to Dedham, MA and that was not a fun commute because I had to deal with the Rt. 128 "Nightmare" which was always bad going both ways. You will have a lot of stop and go traffic around the stateline all the way to the Rt. 128 interchange. Of course the closer you get to Boston the worse that traffic gets. On average my drive time was 1 hour and 45 minutes each way with normal traffic congestion. This does not include accidents or Friday evenings during ski season.

As far as commuting from Boston to Manchester, NH, that would much better. Anyone who makes this commute wished they could be on the other side because there was hardly any traffic. In fact I knew several people that commuted to our NH office from the North Shore area and they said it was a piece of cake for the most part. Good luck .....

Another consideration: New Hampshire does not have a state earned income tax and Massachusetts does. So if you work in New Hampshire and you live in Massachusetts, you will have to pay Massachusetts state income taxes. If you work in New Hampshire and live in New Hampshire you will not pay state income taxes on your salary.

You can always visit Boston in your free time.
