I know car insurance is not mandatory in NH. How about if I live in NH, but I drive every day to work in Mass ? If I am stopped by the police in Mass will they require a car insurance ?

Georgi, I would recommend you get at least liability insurance. The few dollars you're saving a month by not having insurance will cost you tenfold or much more when you get into an accident.

How much for a liability insurance for a driver with no accidents or violations in the last 10 years ? In MA I pay about $600 annually.

That sounds about in line with here in NH. I have liability insurance on a 3/4 ton truck, 1995 model, that I pay $480 a year on but this price includes a multi car discount.

Yes...and if you are not able to show them proof of insurance, they will fine you and may also suspend your driver's license.

If you get your car insurance & homeowners from the same company- you often save a bundle.

In NH you don't have a law to force you to get ins, but if you get rear ended and don't have ins the accident will be your fault. You will think very differently after a event like that.

The only ones with out ins here are the totally insane.

While certainly a foolish choice to make (especially if you own property, a business or have funds of any sort in your name), it is NOT illegal to drive an uninsured vehicle in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

If you get hit, depending on fault, you could certainly attempt to make a claim on the insured person's policy, but being the only insurance company involved, they would determine percentage of fault, making it doubtful your claim would result in payment.

If you are uninsured and hit someone, their insurance company would pay their claim (through their 'un- or under-insured policy), and then come after YOU for payment, and could attach future wages, etc.

It is a requirement that all MASSACHUSETTS residents have auto insurance. They do not yet have the right to require out-of-state drivers to do so.
