Does anyone know if there is a difference between a Black Raspberry and a Blackberry or are they the same fruit ?

I think they are different. I was just discussing this with a farmer down the road who has a little stand next to his house. He didn't sell all the raspberries they had picked so they put them in ziplok bags in the freezer for $3 a bag. I was telling him I bought several bags to make jam with and he said he had just gotten some black raspberry bushes that he put out near his other raspberry bushes. He probably knows the difference! Blackberry bushes are practically weeds!

There are all sorts of varieties of each type of berry (raspberry and blackberry). There are wild blackberries which are small & then domestic cultivars that product a berry as big as your thumb. Likewise raspberries can be dark red, red, pink, or even yellow.

Black Raspberries make excellent ice cream. Blackberry ice cream is different. Two different kinds of berries. Red Raspberries also taste a bit different than Black Raspberries.

Black Raspberries are concave, or u-shaped, like Red Raspberries, I believe. Blackberries can be huge, but also small-sized and have a stem, and are not overly sweet, but with sugar are fine. I worked with an old yankee farmer who said he knew exactly when to pick his big blackberries, and his were the only local ones that were really sweet.

I know the wild blackberries I pick around my house are very "seedy" and I don't think they would be good in ice cream. The black raspberries you refer to sound good for ice cream. I know some of the home made ice creameries always refer to theirs as "Black Raspberry" ice cream - never blackberry.

Where I live you can get both Black Raspberry and Blackberry ice cream and they are different. I've been eating Black Raspberry ice cream for over 30 years and it doesn't contain seeds. The berries are pureed and strained just like many strawberry and blackberry ice creams.

LOL You can actually make your own. It's not too hard. Finding the berries seems to be the toughest part! Oh and you need an ice cream machine. Or you could find some in a store. Friendly's has an EXCELLENT Black Raspberry ice cream. They even have 1/2 gallons or whatever the carton says it is now. Can't keep up with the way they change the sizes of ice cream anymore.
