What's the coolest town/city near the whites? My guess would be portland..but I'd love to hear about a place closer with more accessibility to the whites. I'm young, so a town/city that doesnt go to bed around 10 would be preferable. I've done a bunch of backpacking/mountaineering up there and have visited the little places right outside the whites but am looking for a bit more vibrancy in my young age. I was coming from burlington, vt..if that helps.

Dover or Portsmouth would be good choices.

If two hours isn't far I would just stay in Burlington VT since you are only two hours from the whites now. Burlington is a very nice place for fun stuff to do. You could live in Boston and be two hours from Lincoln NH if you are looking for some awesome city life!

Honestly, Portland and Burlington are pretty much the same distance from the Whites in terms of driving times...

There is nothing closer to the Whites that even approaches these cities in terms of fun and youthfulness. The only option IMO would be Hanover, NH; it is a college town, after all, but a fairly small one at that.

Try Conway or Littleton if shopping is "cool". Montpelier, Vt. might be cool. all are pretty nice places away from the malls and Wally world.

I don't know about that. Littleton has a Walmart, a Shop and Save and a home depot.
