NH is not particularly close to Long Island, though that obviously depends on what your idea of close is. It looks quite a bit closer on the map than it really is.
Compared to Oklahoma, it's obviously a hell of a lot closer.
It used to take me [from the Island] between about 4 - 6.5 hours to make the trip up there
(around 4 hours to get to the bottom of the state, and upwards of 6.5 to get to the upper-middle of the state, just above the White Mountains). More than likely if you find a job in energy, it will be in the southern end of the state.... so figure a 4+ hour commute one-way, whenever you want to go visit family.
