since i do not like feeding the bears, i take my bird feeders in at the beginning of april. now that i have had the feeders back outside for a few weeks, i have yet to see any birds feeding at them. i am using the leftover seed from the spring. would this have anything to do with the lack of birds feeding or are they still finding enough natural stuff that they do not have to stop by?

Bird seed does go bad and birds do have preferences. That said "bad" bird seed is typically REALLY old or was exposed to moisture...in short if you're asking "does it go bad" it probably isn't bad

There is a good chance it might not be their preferred food and with no snow/not much cold weather- there is still more than enough for them elsewhere.

Yes bird seed can go bad if exposed to too much moisture and it will mold. You don't always see mold until it is a major color but the birds know. If you like birds? Refill with new and watch them land. Plus sprinkle a bit on the ground to let them know you didn't forget about them during "bear" season.

I store my parakeet seed in glass and plastic containers. Lately, I have noticed that something I can't see is eating the seeds and leaving a powder or dust behind. What's going on?
