What's the deal with apartments not allowing dogs?

I've looked at apartments and houses all over the state for rent and very, very few allow even small dogs.

Anyone have any tips for finding a place that allows a small dog?

Looking in/around Concord, Manchester, Nashua and starting to look more at the Rochester, Dover area.

I've read a few posts from people with the same problem, so I know I'm not alone here. :-)

yes, I noticed that too, a deal breaker for me (along with most apartments don't have balconies or porches).

I have one place in the areas you are mentioning, and I had no problem finding a rental house that would take my dog (she is only 5lbs). Not sure what the issue is (but I am only a sample size of one). The only time I have had issues with dogs are rentals at beach areas, and ended up having to buy a place there.

Basically people worry about tenants breaking/destroying stuff. A dog just adds to the equation- so not allowing dogs is just easier most of the time.

That said- we found (when we used to rent) if you live somewhere for a bit, pay on time, and are a good tenant- your landlord may make an exception for you once they know you are going to be responsible.

Finding a place with a five pound dog is far different than my 110 pound GSD even though he is super amazing. I also have a 13 week old GSD

I allow people that lease my places to have dogs.... though kids are a different story.

I'm in the Twin Ponds complex in Nashua, they allow any breed but the rent is pricey. There are four different complexes withing the development, we're in the newest (two-story buildings around the pond) and it's nice enough for an apartment.

This is one of many reasons why a landlord does not with to take on dogs.

LINK

If you find a rental that allows dogs then grab it.

Rent with a dog virtually anywhere in Nh was nearly impossible for us. We looked for months and ended up a doozy of a place but we were down to the wore at the end and he was the only one who would take us. Btw I have an 8 lb toy poodle.. now with a 3 year old and two dogs we'd have to buy cause no place would ever rent to us
