Hi. I am going to be moving to Keene, NH or the surrounding area in August to attend Antioch New England graduate school. I am a single mom so I will be looking to rent. I need help in deciding where to move to, schools are a huge deciding factor, and rents that aren't outrageous as I will be living on a student income. My kids are 9 and 10, and my 9 yr old son is in the gifted and talented program so I need a school that has that program. I need recommendations for schools, neighborhoods, apartments, daycares, and anything else anyone wants to share. Thank you!

Keene Middle and High School serves Keene and many of the surrounding towns. Hopefully local posters will be able to tell you more about the gifted programs that they have. I would look at one of the outlying towns to rent in as prices tend to be somewhat more reasonable, even for smaller houses. Keene tax rate is one of the highest in the state and those costs are passed down to renters as well as property owners. It is a great area to live in if you like being outdoors with easy access to conservation lands. It is a fairly far drive, 1-1.5 hours, to reach cities in the rest of the state, though.

I actually don't think we have that many Keene folks on here.

That said, I've run into some Antioch students while hiking and they've been some very friendly/helpful folks.
