Has anyone traveled from Concord down 93 in come across the bridge work at the Hooksett tolls? The metal bridge expanders that go across the road caused damage to my vehicle. The pavement was taken out thus making the metal bars an obstacle course to ride over which is dangerous. This happened two weeks ago and of course people must have called about this because the pavement was there the next day. I put a claim in with my insurance company. Wonder if anyone else came across this issue.
Ken- I believe she is referring to the expansion joints in the bridge (they look like zipper teeth usually perpendicular to the way of travel). A lot of times when they do a repaving job they will become a fairly large "bump" since the pavement will now be lower than they are. Sometimes speeding can make these do some real damage; in other cases a pothole forms and even a car doing below the speed limit will be damaged (there was a famous one of these on 93 heading into Boston during the repaving job around Medford that separated wheels from a few cars before it was fixed).
Ever think of slowing down and paying more attention to the conditions in a construction zone?
No speeding was involved and you didn't know it was coming with a car in front of you. It came up all of the sudden no warning and it was on an exit ramp bridge, not the actual highway. They took out too much pavement making this expander stick way up higher than it should have. Anyway got to the bottom of it we were told there were other vehicles damaged by this and it did make the papers. An wouldn't you know it was paved the next day. Someone probably called OSHA.
I agree, i have hit a few of these things on 495 in MA well below the posted speed limit and still felt like i was getting thrown for a ride.
Most bridges on 495 will rattle ya teeth.
