I am a Mass native, but currently live in Davis, CA with my husband, preschooler, and baby on the way. We have always liked the idea of living in/around Portsmouth. My husband worked/lived in Manchester, NH for several years before moving down to Somerville to live with me when we got married.
I'd love any feedback on moving to the Portsmouth area with kids. Portsmouth High School seems to have good ratings (anybody have personal experience with the HS?), and we're open to living in any of the towns in the district - Portsmouth, Newington, Greenland, Rye. It seems that the elementary and middle school are all pretty good in the area.
1) Are there any areas to avoid?
2) Seems like taxes will be much lower if we stick to Newington or Greenland - correct?
3) Can you give me the "feel" of any of the towns? For instance, I attended a regional HS in Mass. One town was considered somewhat country-ish, and the other town a bit more posh or hoity-toity.
