I like the city- some GREAT restaurants and places for live events, it's also really convenient to just about everything (big city- Boston, Ocean, Lakes, Mountains, farms, etc) I don't know anything about the PD directly though.

One of my best friends from college is a detective with the Manchester PD. He loves it. But I'll say this--- Manchester is very different than Dallas. Climate, size, attitude, etc.
I grew up in Nashua, NH, which is about 20 minutes south of Manchester. Growing up, Manchester was a bit depressing-- an old mill town that seemed to be decaying. But it has really reinvented itself and is nothing like it was. A lot of my friends from school(s) in Nashua have moved into the area or have taken jobs there.
What I loved about growing up in southern NH was the proximity to things. Beaches, lakes, mountains, Boston, etc., were never very far away. Cost of living might be higher than Dallas but I'm guessing there won't be a pay cut from their current salary. I don't think the Manchester PD has a policy that dictates you must live within the city limits so your friend should have the ability to widen their search for a home (apartment or condo).

Thanks for the replies. Yeah he's from Boston originally so I'm sure wont be much different than that.
How are the beaches around that area? Ill definitely have to come up in the summer. Yeah cost of living is probably much higher. I grew up Around Philly and Texas housing is dirt cheap compared to the north.

NH has some nice beaches...though the water tends to stay cool. Cape Cod isn't far away and the water is warmer. Also the north shore of MA has some great beaches as well (Plum Island, Cranes Beach, etc). So does southern Maine...
Hampton Beach kind-of reminds me of the Jersey shore (in a good way...not like that stupid TV show)- minus the boardwalk/rides, etc...
Oh- and the seafood is amazing...

I am living in Manchester. It is totally different from Boston!
I haven't been here for a long time yet, but I don't think your friend can have lots of fun here !!
Does he like Nature? Then fun fun !! Beauty, beaches (Not in Manchester, but close), Mountain ...
However I love people in New Hampshire !! They are great!

I had imagine that someone coming from Dallas area PD might feel like the Maytag repair man when working at Manchester PD.
