At the very least, all Catholics should learn about Judaism as it forms the basis of Christianity.

There is more in common between religions in the world than real differences.

Those who honestly compare religions must acknowledge that many of the claims made by various traditions are mutually exclusive—not all can be right, not all are fundamentally the same, not all belief is unified. Simply put, there are rival conceptions of the divine.

That's a whole different ballgame.

The problem arises when taxpayers are expected to fund a school that discriminates on the basis of religion. Vouchers offer only an "illusion" of choice. Private schools would still retain their right to choose which children to admit and which to reject. Private schools would be given the privileged position of siphoning desperately needed funds from the public school system without offering the equal access that is the hallmark of public education.

The courts have shot down the teaching of creationism and intelligent design with public money over and over again, so why are we letting taxpayer funded private voucher schools teach them? The scientists and educators who devised both state science standards and the national common core standards knew creationism was pseudo-science that would not help American students get the education they need to succeed in a global, 21st century economy. That’s why we don’t teach creationism in public schools. Taxpayers should be outraged that their hard-earned dollars are enabling the mis-education of private school students.

Evolution Is Religion--Not Science

Taught as fact in NH public schools.. why are my tax dollars used to promote this humanist religion.. not only taught as fact but students who disagree are often openly ridiculed..

LiveLeak.com - 9th Circuit Court: Teachers Allowed To Make Fun Of Creationism (comments)

Some states have already approved state funding for religious projects.

The Creation Museum in KY got $40 million in taxpayer funds to recreate Noah's Ark. It is designed to display the 'literal truth' of the bible. At the same time, the state made deep cuts in the education budget and will hit the taxpayers up for another $11 million to pay for the new highway interchange next to the amusement park.

Would the same public tax funds be used to promote an Atheist museum designed to demonstrate falsehoods in the bible? Even if such religious neutrality could be reached, is it appropriate to use taxpayer funds to pay for amusement parks?

Should Six Flags get some of that public funding?

Dave there is no need to point out specific issues. Education has become psychological and behavioral, with outcomes which include student attitudes, disposition, VALUES, and behavior (praxis).
The face value discussion of whether or not world religions are taught is a red herring, and common principles between belief systems is not what we are discussing.

Considering the criteria for merit has changed from academic success to activist-zealot creation requiring acceptance of and expression of a prescribed set of ideals it is in exactly this way that our public schools discriminate on the basis of religion. If we all bought into Bailey & Blavatsky to the point that we became religious zealots we would all go to Dartmouth to perpetuate and accelerate the world religion movement.

Those who do not subscribe......$$$ remediation.

Disagree.. it does have bearing..not only in education but the end result, the finished product, and sorry but the removal of God and the replacement of evolution and pagan religions along with the introduction of drugs to "calm" our school kids is the reason the finished product is what it is today.

The public school system is an easy way to spread a subtle bit of propaganda and it's done in every region across the nation, including NH.

Children’s books publisher Scholastic is taking money from the coal industry (The American Coal Foundation) to teach elementary students their biased views of the benefits of coal. They do not mention damage from mining or pollution. The little newspaper shows a miner without a smudge of coal dust. The power plant has no smokestack.

We should be outraged when lobbyists can poke their long fingers into public classrooms. There is no one more vulnerable than a bored student.

I would really like to know how many welfare kids will get into Phillips Exeter or Groton or any other private school now.

the annual cap limits the scholarship’s availability to less than 1 percent of students in the state.

So basically, the repeal passed the House, did not pass the Senate, (straight party lines) and is left up to the Governor. She supports repeal. Repeals means another $9 MILLION in state revenue over two years, according to estimates attached to the legislation.

the cost of reduced adequacy payments (the millions of dollars in corporate tax credits) will be passed onto local communities and property taxpayers.

all is not lost though. On April 3rd, the House passed it's budget. Item 58 includes "the repeal of the education tax credit".

http://www.gencourt.state.nh.us/legi...013/HB0002.pdf

basically if HB 370 fails, it won't, but if it does, now the Senators have a reason to accept the deal.

Seriously, there is basically no public support for this plan, nor is there any business support. If there were, there would be a little more than just $134K in the kitty.

You have to see what we are really talking about here. Corporations are making charitable donations to religious and private schools for which they receive tax credits. On top of that, they get an additional 85% tax credit from the State of NH. This gives the double dippers a tax advantage that is not given to any other non-profit organization. It also is taking the $ from the public school system which has the responsibility of education the super majority of NH's children, especially the poor.

I don't care that companies can take charitable deductions, but why give them tax credits on top of their credits? Why should religious or private schools have different rules than a library or a homeless shelter?

Seriously, ending the tax credit program won't hurt anybody. If you want to donate, get out your check book......
