Are you male or female? If the latter, my mother has always advocated joing the local Extension Club (or whatever it may be called these days). It's essentially a women's club that has monthly meetings about all sorts of topics. Gets you out and mingling.

And after joining the local Extension Club, it really depends on where you interests lie. You can join the Rotary Club of Capital City Sunrise, a Garden Club, a Mom's Club (Home), check out some great outdoor hobbies: NH's Online resource for Outdoor Recreation, information on camping, biking, hiking, hunting, golfing, fishing & skiing.
