Call your insurance agent and ask what rate increase percentage a 3 point penalty will entail. I'd guess that it's either 0 or very small. Fighting a speeding ticket in court by yourself is a losing proposition. Hiring a lawyer will cost you dearly and there is no guarantee that he will get you an acquittal. By the way, did you ask to see the radar/laser calibration report when you were stopped? I believe that you have a right to see it in NH.

These days, you might get better results from posting on Facebook/Yelp/etc than by sending a letter.

So when you get stopped for speeding, you can blame all the cute girls at Tilted Kilt for getting you drunk!

..and then buy a radar detector. Escort passport 9500ix will give you plenty of time to slow it down... also its connected to gps, so you can plug in known cop "hideouts". also the radar will even speak to you and tell you when youre approaching red light cameras.. my 6000 mile road trip in a week and half will be relying heavily on the radar

My father is an insurance agent, granted it is out in Washington state but the policies may be similar. He told me that generally just one ticket will not raise your insurance unless you go to change insurance companies. At that point, the company will run a motor vehicle report and price your insurance accordingly. It cost the agency money every time they run a report so I doubt it is worth it to run it randomly.

Advise everyone I know of this predatory tactic and where it is happening
Next time if I get pulled over, I'll stop right on 101A about 1ft from the curb and let the cop worry about their own safety
I'm confused ... you're going to stop patronizing local businesses because you can't speed on that road? (Sorry, but there's no excuse for going 47 in a 30 zone.)

Um, maybe you could just stop going 50% more than the speed limit?

The above is what I wrote to so-called "Safedriver14" ... and I just got a rep comment saying I must never have driven that stretch.

Safedriver (hmmm), you wrote that the speed limit was 30, most people were going 40, and you got a ticket for going 47 in this 30 zone even though you were going "just a little faster" than others. And you are going to take out your frustration in getting a ticket on local businesses.

I'm not trying to be holier than thou, I'm just flabbergasted that you could go 47 in a 30 zone and then be angry that you got a ticket. Yeah, those horrible cops who clocked you at more than 50% more than the speed limit.

Do I ever go faster than the speed limit? Sure, but not 47 in a 30. 35 in a 30, yeah, and if I get a ticket for that, I would blame no one but MYSELF since I would know I was speeding. So much for that "personal responsibility" we're always screaming about.

Default Ticket

I've gone to court a couple times and at the very least got the FINE Reduced.....I had a 200 ticket once reduced to 100.....so at the very least you could get it reduced some maybe..

the main thing is don't give the cops an attitude, be nice and it goes a long way.

Never plead guilty to a speeding ticket. If you contest it, they will almost always reduce the penalty somewhat because they don't want to waste their time going to court over it. Even if they know you are guilty, they will cut you a break just to get you to go away. I got pulled over going 85 in a 65 (deserted I-93 in the middle of the night) and got a $299 ticket. I contested it and got it reduced to $150.

they are out in force now - got nailed by a guy in a black charger on Spit Brook near the Main Dunstable intersection. My wife disputed her ticket, got the court date, the cop did not show up. She pleaded not guilty and they threw it out.
