Our family will be moving to the DHMC area at the end of the school year. We are interested in the areas within a 30 minute ride to DHMC. Any suggestions? We have 3 kids ages 8,5, &4. Thanks for any suggestions. Looking for that nice small New England town atmosphere.

We are looking in the Lebanon area. We want a small town atmosphere, with a house on land big enough for a horse or two.

Default Another town

Canaan is also a nice quiet town about 30 minutes away. It's a regional school district with Enfield. House prices are about the same, taxes are all high. If you want some real estate agents just PM me.

Up in Lebanon, be carefull. There is a lot of money up that way, with Dartmouth , and the rich yankees who sit around their farms all day and do nothing. WATCH OUT FOR REAL ESTATE AGENTS. Do a lot of searching before you deal with any of those people. Most will skin you alive if they think you have money. Go to a reputable established firm. DON'T TRUST ANYBODY. The winters are very cold and long up there, seven months of the year are freezing. It's like northern Russia. Cold. Make sure you get a home with a good heating system and new windows or you will spend thousands per montn on heat. Maybe rent to see if you like the place, I sure hate anyplac north of Boston.

now that I think of it, maybe you ought to ask people at your place of work, the hospital or school for advice. You seem to be biting off a lot at once. Three kids and a spouse. and you want a few horses also. Any idea what Vet bills go for these days. ?and feed? They will cost more than the three kids. Also if you buy a house with a barn, chances are you'll be paying close to a thousand a month for property taxes. Property taxes plus feed and vet care for two horses come out to about two thousand dollars a month. throw in heating bills, seven months of the year thats about a total of three thousand per month for the horses, propertty taxes and heat. Thats even before your mortage payments or electrical bills. No public transportation up there, you and your spouse will have to have separate cars, another expense, maybe a minimum of a thousand per month . Good luck and again, don't trust any unknown real estate agents, go to a well known firm or one recommended by your employer because you'll get skinnned alive by some of these unknowns, it happens every day.
