Deerfield Fair is an agricultural fair.
it's billed as a family fair because there is "no gambling".
I prefer the Rochester fair, it's longer, also has agricultural displays, animals and rides, but you have the opportunity to win a doll or a stuffed tiger for a loved one.
Unless you like shoulder-to-shoulder crowds, I would AVOID the Keene Pumpkin Festival. Never again. (But if you are determined -- because it IS neat to see those pumpkins, know that it's much easier sans kids. We were basket cases trying to keep track of them in the massive crowds.)

I think the whole Sunapee/Newbury/Warner/New London/Bradford/Sutton area is one giant awesome fall festival. Just driving around the region during fall, you run into all kinds of neat events.
Hello everyone I am new to this. Since you all are from New Hampshire. Can anyone advice me which towns are the best to move to with good school systems....Thank you AMG

There are a lot of threads on this topic already. I suggest you check out greatschools.org and take it from there.

Hi AMG. I'm going to suggest that you start a new thread to ask your questions. As lady fern says, there are already many threads about this topic, but you are likely to get more help/response if your question isn't part of a thread about fall fairs & festivals. What will also be helpful is asking about a particular part of NH. If you are only concerned with the lakes region, for example, posts about the seacoast or southern New Hampshire wouldn't be of particular interest to you.
I never found the Keene Pumpkin festival to be that crowded but maybe it's just me. The Big E in West Springfield Mass is billed as New Englands great state fair and it really lives up to it's billing. Great fair with awesome food, shows , animals, circus , bands and much much more. West Springfield is a little over an hour from Keene right off of I91 and well worth the trip.
In the past 9 years, I've been to the Pumpkin Festival in Keene 5 times, I think. When I first went, it was really a fun time. As the years have passed, it gets more crowded and more crowded. Uncomfortably crowded. Hard to walk crowded. It's disappointing, because I used to love it. It also used to be very family oriented, and recently it seems more college student oriented. I spent 90 min. in line (no exaggeration) with my granddaughter to ride the one ride they had there last year - a ferris wheel. It is spectacular to see that many pumpkins lined up, and to contribute to the festivities by carving and bringing jack o lanterns to add to the mix. Maybe the answer is to go on Friday night (tho a lot less pumpkins will be on display then) or Saturday early in the day (tho the jack o lanterns won't be lit and it's a bit less festive in the daytime) to beat the crowds. I would love it to return to the festival I attended 9 years ago.
