The Seattle area might be a better fit for you. It has far more IT jobs and not nearly as far away from CA.

Clearly you missed the part of not wanting to be part of a nanny state full of big.gov liberal bleeding hearts who are constantly crying that the state doesn't have enough money.

Washington is soon to follow California's fate. As the unions destroyed the public school system in CA many of those union teachers moved to Washington for jobs. Kind of like locusts, when one area is destroyed they simply move to another and repeat the process.

Well at the moment, I don't think that NH or MA is a good fit for the OP and her family. She doesn't and isn't interested in working, and her husband doesn't have any job prospects lined up. Currently they own a house in CA where the monthly payments are only $1000 a month. And she says that in selling it, they aren't going to have much cash to buy anything more than $140K, but I don't think that she's taken into account NH's high property taxes or the cost of heating a house in the wintertime and the cost of commuting to MA for work since her husband needs to make $50-60K a year to support their needs. I think that southern NH will be priced out of their budget. Any further north, and the commute will be a PITA and more like Northern CA which they aren't interested in moving to.
