Whether the reds are as bright as in the past is kind of irrelevant to me. I've only lived here for 4 1/2 years, and I LOVE the fall colors. M'eh or not, it's all good as far as I'm concerned. It's still so much prettier than many other parts of the country.
The most beautiful display of red I have ever seen were on the Durham UNH campus more than 10 years ago, also they were outstanding in a large cemetery in Dover, NH.
Had family out from the Midwest and we went to Kancamagus Hwy yesterday and were very disappointed in the color which must have peaked earlier. I am from southern NH area and it was absolutely gorgeous down here with every color imaginable. We have always gone north the first Friday of October and had great viewing but not this year.
My family drove the Kanc on Sept. 27th and said the colors were not even near peak. I was sick in bed so can't say for myself. I live just north of Concord and the Maples on my property have just fully turned orange and red over the last 5 days. The oaks are still mostly green but are starting to turn.
colors on the Kanc are at peak or past peak. Some trees are bare already. There are spots with color still. The coast and the mid to southern part of the state has the best foliage currently.
