I live in the Manchester area, and my family and I eat an organic diet. I have found organic chicken and ground beef at Market Basket, but it would be nice to have a source for a steak or turkey.
Can anyone recommend a store that would have this?
I have checked into buying a share with a co-op, but you must also purchase a vegetable share, and I grow my own veggies.
Concord Food Co-op has lots of organic meat too, from cuts of whole meat to things like uncured sausage.
Also, The Healthy Buffalo in Chichester has a lot of grass-fed and organic meat although many of their options are frozen.
I know neither of these are that close to Manchester, but the Co-op is pretty much right off 93, and The Healthy Buffalo is right off 393, maybe 4 miles away from 93.
Thanks, Cowbell! I definitely need to re-discover the Concord Co-op. I haven't been there since they re-did the building.
It's so much bigger now! The only thing I don't like is that they have completely gotten rid of their fish counter. No fresh fish. I'm honestly at a loss for finding great fish in the Concord area now. I think the fish counter was separately-owned or something.
I want to thank you so much for posting the link to Steve Normanton farm.
We took a ride over there this morning. I was impressed. The people that were working were really helpful and friendly. My son has Autism, and he was excited to see the animals. He asked if they offered tours. The young gal working in the farm store went outside and asked the farm hand if he would give a tour. He dropped everything he was doing and showed us all around.
We saw the pigs, their pens, he talked to us about what they eat. Showed us the chicken greenhouse. It was clean and you could tell that they kept it clean. The animals were not dirty at all, there were no pungent smells, and it was definitely heated because it was not freezing in their area.
The cows had a huge pasture that they could walk around in. The cart that their dried grass was on is moved often so they aren't standing in mud and poop.
They had a selection of every meet you could think of, and offer eggs and raw milk as well.
I am so happy we took a ride over there. Thanks again for the link!
