Exactly. I don't have animals here (not that I don't love and adore them) but living in an apartment isn't quite the place to have animals. I also don't really have a "yard" for them etc...
So I don't go to shelters because I would be dying to take them home and can't. I'd have picked up Tigger too (not that I can tell the difference in most breeds either LOL).
holy crap....we only paid 23.50 for tigger...i guess we got one hell of a deal lol....
yup, that's about average for a 'breed' cat - some go higher. It's about what I paid for Canute - you don't find Norwegian Forest cats at the shelter. It's possible that he might be full breed - on occasion breeders will send excess 'pet quality' kittens (if they have too many) to a shelter but most that I know don't do that. But a lot of people let their cats wander, and a part breed will look the same. Actually Coons are so amazing that you can actually start up a cattery with a foundling! It just takes a couple generates with registered cats to make the line. You can't do that with most breeds.
But.. breed politics aside, you definitely got a great deal! It's at least $70 or more (it was 3 years ago) to adopt a kitten from my vet, and the kittens I see at PetSmart are going for about $100+. Most of the shelters are charging a lot, and some counties down here have very restrictive requirements (they do a home check first and decide if they like you, you have to provide vet records of any pets for the last 10 years, and they'll check! and they reserve the right to come and revisit at any time with no notice and may reclaim the pet if they aren't happy - like you're at work when they come and they can't get in!).
Aww... Annie is very sweet! Another "brown Mackerel Tabby w/white" - like Tigger! So.. she looks about 8months - a year old?
BTW: those kitten costs are for 'pet quality' not show or breed quality which are higher.
Thanks Wanna. No she is 9 years old! I know she does not look it. And she does not act it either. She is very skinny and we are trying to fatten her up!

wow, that's great! don't worry about fattening her up, that will happen on it's own time as she relaxes and gets used to everything.
That's really great! Older cats so seldom get adopted.
Thanks Wanna. Seeing a 9-year old at the shelter broke my heart. If I left her there- I could not have forgiven myself.
JFR-you are right about that! (said by somone who will be turning 40 this year)
