Consider this-
No state tax, no captial gains, tax, open gun carry laws, no seat belt or helmet laws, ..and very motivated citizens to keep taxes as low as possible.
I got much of my information from folks at the FSP...what is that? see www dot freestateproject dot org
It's a number of people moving to NH for freedoms. Freedoms which many state governments eclipse.
They list 101 reasons to move to NH... all I can say is AWESOME ...I'm on my way..
If you are liberty minded, care about your rights, want to change government to the way it ought to be, meet people who are of like mind -sign up for the FSP...it costs nothing, it's a goal. You can help change things...individually we can't force the governement to change- but the government is FOR THE PEOPLE, and collectively we could actually regain some strength.
My two cents...hopefully it will counter those liberal crazies invading from Mass. *Hope* it will counter their opportunities to drive taxes up and create the last bastion of low taxes into another appendage to Mass.

Just FYI- I have read and heard that a LOT of folks from Mass. live in southern NH so they can escape some of the taxes...

NH has outrageously HIGH property taxes! And what do you get for these high taxes? On a similar house in Massachusetts taxes are half what they'd be in NH. And Massachusetts has prop 2 1/2 so they can only raise your taxes 2 1/2% per year. NH tax rates are at the whim of the town leaders. I recently read where they tax you even higher if your house has a view.

I say, live in MA and shop in NH. Most of those liberal crazies you mentioned who live in Massachusetts do just that! They zip in and out and stay as far away as they can from conservative nutballs like you.

One of the main reasons I left NH was because of the incredible cost of living and the taxes. (And yes, those taxes are at the whim of reps whom you can never find.) A house I moved into in 2000 @$6300 in taxes was slated for about $12,000 in taxes at the end of the year in which I sold it: 2003.

As for all the "freedoms"... I'll have to think about that one. I never felt particularily "free" there, especially when I homeschooled my kids or walked one of the crime-infested streets. Those unregulated guns aren't bought only by the good guys, you know.

The citizens you've heard from may be motivated, but I met almost no one like that in the 10+ years I lived there. Lots of 2-income households, in southern NH especially, because you need both people working a lot in order to afford living there. No time to monitor the gov't.

Don't mean to sound too sarcastic, but I think you may be envisioning something that's a bit less than reality.

and we also have a much less tax burden than the liberal nutballs in Taxachusetts as the tax evading mass person said alot come here to shop so they don't have to pay there state taxes and then go home and say how conservative we are. we are not we are moderates yes but still better than Taxachusetts. now if we could just get the liberal nutballs from mass to stay in there own state NH would really rock hense the granite state not the tax state of mass.

Hmm Mass...home on the range...home to Kennedy and Kerry...sad representation of that state. I'm sure Mass has pros and cons....I'll lump it in with California on my list of places not to live though. Thanks.

If low taxes are what you want move to the south.
Bad schools, bad local services, more corrupt politicos then in MASS-
Ignorant populace that listens to nut bags like Rush Limbaugh and Jerry Falwell.

Corrupt Police officials, on and on we go.

Americans can be so dumb- taxes can serve a purpose- and in the future, they will have to be raised to serve an aging population.

No way am I going South- already live there...refuse to stay here. But I also refuse to move to Mass. Not that it's a bad state- I just disagree with the way it is run. I wouldn't live in Cali either. Again, not because it's a bad state or all the people are bad, but because of the way it's run.
Sure taxes can serve a pupose. It's how they are applied for the betterment of the people that is of concern.
Taxes are not the only deciding factor. I figure people can make up their own minds- I give them enough credit to be smart enough to make their own decisions.

America has always been anti-tax- it's one of the reasons this country was founded! Actually, more/higher taxes is a quasi-socialist idsology, imported in the 20th century form Europe. But they're even changing now, moving more toward pure capitalist democracies. The countries who have embraced this philosophy are thriving economically (Britain, Ireland, and to a lesser extent Spain). The ones who are still mired in socialism have economies that are sinking like a stone (France, Italy, and to some degree, Germany). Higher taxes and unemployment drove people away in the 60's and 70's, and contries like Britain had a serious problem with "brain drain" of their professionals, many of whom who came here to work. Taxes are still higher there overall, but by not much - and some countries don't even have property taxes at all! They have VAT - which is a high sales tax on everything.
And because of the massive immigration from new EU countries in Eastern Europe, (and illegal immigration from Asia and Africa) things like health care and schools are being stretched to the limit, so you are no longer getting great social services for your taxes, as you maybe once did.

And CelticLion, please don't start bashing people because of theri political philosophies. there are many of us who would like to find a more conservative place to live (I live in CA, which is Blue all the way!) that isn't in the South. Maybe your frame of reference is very narrow, but not every conservative is a "nutbag" or listens to the likes of Limbaugh.
And as food for thought, as I mentioned on another thread somewhere on this forum, those liberals/progressives who are so desperate to flee states like MA, CA, NY, etc. may want to look at things like high taxes, and other liberal economic and social policies for perhaps making their state somewhere they don't want to live anymore.

Default Lobbying? What a word!

Taxes... Is NH property taxes really high? What is high? What is the average tax bill and what about the rate ($$ per $1K)?

Since we are talking about politics,
Giving money to officials is call bribing in other countries. In the US, we call it lobbying. The difference is UNDER or OVER the table. Money still change hands and result is the same (a favor).
