Toxic pesticides are useful because they work. Doesn't justify dumping them in the environment willy-nilly, but I still pay a service to come around once a quarter, check for termites, spray for carpenter ants, and knock down my wasp nests.

Because it's worth paying a few bucks to have somebody else get stung by wasps.

Of course. My only non-sympathy for the OP is because he used several cans of spray and then dumped the empty cans in the communal rubbish.

So... more than one can is excessive this early in the spring season. More spray is not better. Secondly, knowing how his landlord felt about pesticides, having the several empty cans of Raid in the shared trash was like waving a red flag in front of a bull.

And considering the OP's problems with finding another place to rent (due to his credit history), he should have made a greater effort to avoid clashing with his landlord like that. After all, what is the OP going to do? Tell the landlord that he was only following the advice of his internet message board "friends"? And it's not as if anyone here would take him in after he gets evicted...

THe OP came here asking for validation for his decision to use Raid after being explicitly told by his landlord not to. And now that he did it and he's been evicted, he's telling us, Oh BTW there are all these other issues and that he has to be very careful about his housing decisions. I don't think we've gotten the whole story.

Something stinks about this story, and it's not the insecticide.
