Why are there no vehicle noise laws/ordinances in NH, and if there are, why aren't they enforced?

See RSA 259:66, enforced as part of the annual vehicle inspection.

Towns generally have their own local noise ordinance, but like most nuisance laws in New Hampshire, they're enforced based on complaints, not proactively.

That RSA is very vague. If the muffler reduces noise by 1 db, the argument could be made that its reducing noise.

Most states micromanage the proles more than NH does.

A lot of people in NH value freedom, so the state's ongoing efforts to micromanage and control every aspect of everyone's lives moves along slower than most other states in the U.S.

92 decibels while idling and either 96 or 100 decibels while revving the engine at a certain speed

Friend of mine got a ticket for having his radio too loud. Knowing him, it wasn't. But he was a teen back then, so... selective enforcement.

Yeah, I hear you on this. Yesterday was really nice, so I did some work in the driveway on a car. Too many motorcycles went by. I get the bit about freedom but I've had my ears blasted out by a HD drive passing me--can't drive in warm weather with the windows down.

It's one of the nice things about New England winters. Forces 'em off the roads.

But it doesn't force off the road Jake braking, snowmobiles, off road bikes, diesel trucks, fireworks etc.. I am a little tired of the selective bashing of motorcycles especially when there are all those obnoxious little tuner cars running around, not to mention the sounds of screaming kids and drunk adults in their yards.

Fair enough--I don't like them either. But I see--err, hear--far more bikes in my travels.
