We're an early 30s couple moving from Atlanta. My fiancee will be going to UNH in Durham and I will be working in Andover, MA, so we're looking for something in between BUT must be in NH for tuition purposes. We were hoping for a nice walkable neighborhood with some restaurants etc. We like Exeter but it would be a 45min-1 hour drive for me each way, so we're wondering where else to look?

Look for rentals in century village in londonderry...walking distance to gym, movie theater, restaurants, grocery stores.
Or downtown derry. Easy access to rt 93.

Durham to Exeter does not take more then half an hour at most. Even in a Prius.

I would also check the recently rebuilt Polling Meadows Condo's in Londonderry for rents. The place is beautiful. It is also about a half hour from Andover and 45 minutes from Durham once you know the back roads. I also suggest checking with local relators for information and references.

Getting to Durham from Exeter, or any place along Rte 101 (eat seacoast to Epping/Raymond) will be easy-peasy, but getting you to Andover in morning commuter traffic would definitely be 45 min+.

I would suggest Plaistow, Newton or Hampstead, for easy access to the Mass border and Rte 495. Lots of walkable neighborhoods & condo communities, may have rentals (if that's what you're looking for).
