Just wanted to update this thread again. The chimney company came today -- installed a new chimney liner. (Mine was very very old and had some VINES growing in it, apparently, from the side of my house where some weird "access panel" was! ) They were very nice and appeared to be very professional -- have been in business for decades.

The installation of the new furnace will be next Thursday. So far this winter I have been using my pellet insert and it's been terrific, but I don't like to rely on it when temps get into the single digits or negative numbers, so this may be just in time! Tomorrow's low is expected to be ~13 degrees.

Isn't winter lovely?

Default and one last update!

Finally have my new furnace -- some 10 months after the old one died! The company came yesterday and generally were great. Unfortunately they subcontracted the sheet metal work to another local company and those workers were NOT good -- one left the basement door open when he was upstairs using the bathroom (even though I had specifically asked them to CLOSE it behind them as I didn't want my cats to go down there), and at one point they left the house altogether for a while (they were doing 2 jobs yesterday) and left not only my BULKHEAD wide open, but also the INNER DOOR to the basement wide open! I went down to check on the progress of the sheet metal work (just out of curiosity) and found the doors open with rain coming into the basement (it was pouring all day yesterday). Freakin' idiots. I called the furnace company and the head guy was at my house literally 5 minutes later, taking pictures to send to the other company. I suspect they will not be using them again.

Anyway, the furnace is working great -- the house actually gets TOO hot for me when the furnace is going (especially the bedrooms -- I like a very cold bedroom for sleeping, as in 55 degrees or so ). So the pellet insert is back on for now. It's nice to have BOTH sources working well -- I am sure I will be grateful to have the furnace on nights when we dip into the single digits or lower!

Oh, and one other nice thing: there's a $500 rebate for new furnaces so I will be getting that check in probably a month or so.
