Hi all- my mom just moved to Hillsborough County. We went for a walk around Amherst/Mont Vernon line. (We went down Boston Post Road in Amherst and ended up in Mont Vernon) There looked to be a trail, most likely an old road that was part of Boston Post Road. We came across this old lot that looked like a house could have been there. On a tree is a family sign "The Wilson's" . I am just curious as to the history of this property and family!

Question Can you share the address and GPS coordinates?

No GPS coordinates found in image metadata.

There's a whole subculture around exploring old "cellar hole" sites.

Maybe check with your local town halls for any information. That "Wilson's" sign doesn't look all that old. It's definitely not an antique.

Oh yeah.

The Wilsons used to be there.

Edit---how is that area? I'm planning a move in a couple years to NH and am taking a trip up in a few weeks to start driving driving.

That's a nice semi-rural part of Mt. Vernon, but check the FEMA floodplain map.

Here's how I would go about researching a property in Mont Vernon, Hillsborough County.

  1. Find the Mont Vernon Tax Map and identify the Parcel ID (You need the Map# and Lot-Sub number)
  2. Find the current owner of the lot in the Mont Vernon Tax Kiosk site. This has the tax bills and owner for the last decade or so.
  3. Launch the free Hillsborough County recorder of deeds search tool (Requires Java)
  4. Search for the latest deed for that lot.
  5. Use references to book/page to look up historical deeds
