Anyone,
We just put a very competitive offer on a home and will probably get it (home is in Hollis, not far from Nashua/Route 3)

Since everyone on this board is so helpful I was wondering if they could suggest a good home inspector/inspection company who would service the Hollis, NH area. I'm looking for a company that can also arrange for septic (where they actually inspect the system, not just look in real quick and go "good"), water quality (well), termite/pest, radon air/water- pretty much the full gamut.

I'm looking for the toughest most comprehensive and reputable inspector I can find. Not because I believe their to be an issues- but because a thorough inspection is important to me. I've heard some complaints of inspectors who "take too long"- that's ok with me as long as that time is spent inspecting I'll take all day!

Thank you much!

I can only suggest that when you chose an inspector, that you chose somebody who is affiliated with NACHI or ASHI. Since New Hampshire doesn't require that home inspectors be licensed. I routinely give my clients 3 or 4 names to chose from, but of course they are free to chose who they would like to hire. Best of luck!

Here's the link to the home inspector we used: Thomas Ruscak | Thomas & Company Home Inspections, Inc. | Methuen, Massachusetts | ASHI, American Society of Home Inspectors (http://www.ashi.org/homeinspectors/Massachusetts/Methuen/7776HA/ - broken link)
He's out of Mass, but inspected our home in Hollis.
He took his time doing the inspection, my husband following him around...So far the only problems we've encountered were minor ones which were already obvious.
'A Bee Septic' did our septic inspection...while I wasn't here for that, the fact that my critically particular engineer husband was satisfied with both inspections says a lot.

A couple of things you're probably already aware of but I'll offer anyway: Previous owners here didn't have radon mitigation in the basement. Our reading wasn't very high, but we had them put one in as a condition of sale. Also, if you're surrounded by pines, you know the water will be acidic...which causes pinholes in copper piping....lots of people will patch the holes one by one...then eventually the works give way to massive leaking ($$$). It's impossible to see through each wall that has piping in it, but get your best possible look.

Thanks!

Wow, that's actually great information to get regarding the pines. I knew it resulted in acidic soil but didn't even think of the water supply and affect on copper pipes. I'll be sure to make sure we pay extra attention to that!

Here's one of the links for the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI). Let me know if you require any additional information.
