Does Moultonborough have much of a community feel and opportunity for volunteering and getting involved. We really want to meet people and become a part of the community.
Moultonborough is a small town and many of the homes there are second homes or vacation homes. If you end up living in one of the smaller towns in NH, I would not limit your 'community" to that town only. If you do not find many opportunities to to meet people in towns like Moultonborough and Tuftonboro, you can likely find more in Center Harbor or Wolfeboro, and certainly in Meredith. Depending on where you live in Moultonborough, Meredith can be a quick fifteen or twenty minute drive down the road, and there are lots of opportunities to connect with people there.
Freedom is a neat, really small town. It's located North of Wakefield and South of Conway. The town itself has an active community feel where neighbors go out of their way to help. Everyone knows each other and that can be going or bad lol. No shopping no crime. However everything you need is within your travel parameters. Low taxes doesn't hurt either.
Alton is a good town to look into as well, small Downtown, large conservation lands such as Mt. Major, lakefront, and easy access to Seacoast and Concord.
NH is very tax friendly in general for retirees especially those on a pension. I have many friends who were federal employees or state employees that moved to NH in order to avoid taxes plus take advantage of the great outdoors the state has to offer. State property taxes, as mentioned by others on this thread, vary widely by town there are many around Laconia that have lower taxes.

I vacationed for years in West Alton, on Lake Winipausaukee. Gorgeous country.

Join into the debate to renovate the Lions Club building - purchased by the town for $500,000 - another bonded future funded. To renovate for unstated millions of dollars. More bonded and future funded.
