Yeah, there are have been a series of viral epidemics that have started in China over the past few decades, with the problem coming from risks stemming from their poor animal husbandry practices. If anyone remembers "Bird Flu", SARS, etc - they came from China, from animals being raised for food.

"The "silver lining" to this particular incident is that is that science can possibly reconstruct a picture of how the disease spread from "patient zero", (the term itself is an over-simplification) and how early in the outbreak.
Consider a similar incident from nearly two generations ago:

Whether we admit it to ourselves or not, the AIDS outbreak gave us many of the tools to deal with the current pandemic.
