That's an example of a responsible thing to do and good on them.

As for as the subject of the article, he was irresponsible. Look on the bright side, he hasn't killed anybody----yet.

Think of the implications for the Vt Health Dept. They had to track down, interview, advise, +/- examine, and provide follow-up for >200 people, plus oversee the disinfection of the party site. That's a big burden on a small dept in a small state. Cavalierly expending resources on this due to one person's self-entitlement is not smart.

This 1 person exposed 200 people. Those 200 people have contacts with hundreds or more of others. The risk is only low if we keep the virus contained with quarantines, otherwise, we can be in the same boat China is. The fatality rate with this virus is significantly worse than the flu. It needs to be contained to prevent big problems.

A Tuck student who attended that event is now ill and being quarantined and tested, and the school has cancelled classes. Four medical students are now being quarantined after being in "close contact" with the second guy who tested positive after contact with the event-attending moron. Dartmouth has cancelled all of its international and exchange student programs.

DHMC's statement about the moron:

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center CEO Joanne Conroy acknowledged the frustration of many in addressing the fact that the first patient to contract COVID-19 in New Hampshire, a DHMC employee, disregarded a request to self-quarantine.

“I’d like to start with a recognition that this employee was directed by Dartmouth-Hitchcock to self-quarantine and did not comply. We fully understand this causes great concern,†said Conroy.

“This concern exists both inside and outside our organization. We will not provide any additional details around this employee or any other patients. It’s the law and we comply with it.â€

Two more cases in NH...
A man who was exposed to a confirmed case at a church service in West Lebanon, and someone from Rockingham County who recently traveled to Italy.

Everybody panic.

Anyhow, it is spreading and there is really little anyone can do about it considering that many are asymptomatic for the first week or so.

Johns Hopkins mapping site is pretty neat. Looks like Vermont caught the beer flu too.

Given that the virus can be transmitted from asymptomatic people who already have it, and that they can be contagious for at least 3 weeks even if they're clinically recovered, I think everyone is going to get this. Most will have a mild case. The problem is that the 10-20% with severe cases are going to completely overwhelm our healthcare system.
