Hello,

I apologize if I’m posting on the wrong forum in advance. I’m from New York City and I had to come to New Hampshire for school considering there are no universities that offer animal science programs in NYC. I’m currently a student in UNH, but I’ve always been insanely in love with horses. I’m currently 20 and I’ve been taking horse riding lessons for the last 7 years, however the riding centers at NYC weren’t the greatest and I was constantly hopping from one riding center to the next. The rings were constantly full of riders and I was never able to hear or get any individualized attention from my trainer. There was always eight instructors yelling at eight different students. I was in a constant loop and it took me about 6 years to even begin learning how to canter. I’ve always wanted to learn how to tack up horses however it was always done for me and I was never given the opportunity to learn how to tack up horses. I’m also somewhat of a minority and I grew up in a melting cultural pot from NYC, so it’s always been somewhat scary to find opportunities for myself since I’ve never been on my own.
I was having trouble with finding reviews for horse riding stables in Durham. Are there any barns near Durham that offer private lessons that are relatively small, are willing to teach individuals with no horse experience, have jumping opportunities, and have options to board or lease a horse? In regards to estimates, what are the general costs for private lessons, leasing, and boarding? Thanks in advance and I’m sorry if I made any crazy grammatical mistakes.

Brookside Quarter Horses advertises boarding and training. It's not too far away in Chester, Rockingham County. They're on Facebook. I've never been on the Facebook so can't give you my opinion of Brookside.

Can't you ride at UNH? You may have to wait until COVID has passed but the school does have an equine program.

It would appear they are looking for barn help.

I used to ride at Senator Bell Farm in chester or windham (don't remember). It was beautiful. Had indoor arena, outdoor arenas and a gorgeous cross country course.

10 - 15 minute drive from UNH. We have no direct experience but a number of people in town send their kids, all have good things to say.

There's a place in Rye - sorry I can't remember the name of it. It's on Wallis Road right up the street from the beach. See if you can find a name and number for them and give them a call. If they can't help you, they can't probably point you in the right direction.
