The black flies don't seem as bad this year. What about everyone else?

It very much depends on location. If you are on a pond or lake they are as thick as thieves by the waterfront.

This spring was very windy, so that helped too.

Really hit and miss for me. At my Lakes Region rental, they are non existent this year. Gnats are a different story though.

At my property further north where I am building a house, they are bad in sections and non existent in others. There is also a small biting fly there that is not a deer fly and has been giving me fits. I actually still have scars from where two bit me last fall. Coincidentally, the spot that my house is going in has both the black flies and biting flies. Great planning on my part.

Went hiking this past weekend and they were everywhere. I have noticed they haven't been so bad when I've been out in my yard though.

Yeah, really bad today in both my locations!

I also just pulled another tick out of me. That makes two bights this year and the stress of monitoring for lyme symptoms. The first one was kind of my fault as I had been lazy on starting repellent. The one today must have been hungry, because he dove in despite my deet coating.

Black Flies haven't been to bad this year (I live by a lake)

I think the persistent wind and somewhat dryer weather have helped. Got about 20 mosquito bites this past weekend however!

I'm a walking tick borne disease test patient. Just pulled the third one out of me today. Picking them up in Coös county and bringing them back south. This is despite bug repellent and changing clothes.

I'm about to break out my uniforms as they are all pemethrin impregnated.
