I was driving today on I-93 between Plymouth and Concord and noticed that many white pine trees alongside had turned a reddish or yellow color.
Is this a fungus or rust?
Hopefully the coming rainfall will help some because it has been extremely dry lately.

Those white pine trees are dying. I suppose it could be caused by dry conditions, or the tree being stressed by some other factor. However, it's most likely caused by the residual effect of road salt run-off. Hemlocks show salt damage the same way. A brown evergreen stands out like a sore thumb.

ayuh - as mentioned above - it's salt kill from the winter road treatment - usually, the trees can recover and will shoot out new growth

I am here for good!
It feels great to be here in NH after living near the Kansas City metro area for over 20 years.

Congratulations on your successful move Plains! I hope you enjoy it here....if I remember correctly, didn't you live in NH previously? (If not, excuse the mistake, I have you confused with someone else <g>).

I saw some of your posts in another forum and I think you'll find the crosswalks much less "stimulating" in NH - at least up where we are, people are very courteous and careful to watch for those trying to cross a street and they actually stop for them.....unheard of in NYS from whence we came
