dzmjp, I might you might consider some of the smaller towns north of Manchester... Not that people in southern NH don't hunt, camp, etc, but it' so much more laid back up the further north you get. I'm in Londonderry, and I chose it for the schools. Luckily all we could afford was an "older" house built in 1962, so we're not in a subdivision/cul de sac neighborhood. Actually I've been there and done that (former model home in Missouri) and this type of neighborhood is much more to our liking. It's a very relaxed and family friendly area. Our neighbor shares venison with us, and since his wife won't cook it, we have him over every time I pull some out of the freezer (got a great venison stew recipe to share with you if you want!)

Maybe once we get out there, we will trade our stews and see whose is better We are actually looking further north of Manchester, actually more towards 101 (West?) and around 89... Bow, Henniker,Sutton, Warner, etc. My husband loves to live rural, (but I'm okay with neighbors )... but I'm afraid that southern NH is building up too quickly... We will see .... We are taking our trip in October and that is really going to help us decide the areas that we are interested in and where to focus our job search.

It's great that you're coming out in October--it should be beautiful here then (depending on which week you're coming, usually the 1st 2 weeks are the best, then the leaves go brown in the northern part of the state...
I should be able to recommend the services of a couple of real estate agents, but I will also suggest that you don't jump into an exclusive agency relationship until you've had a chance to go out a couple of times, just to make sure that everybody is all on the same page
We might look into renting a couple of months once we both find jobs to make sure where we purchase a house is where we want to be... make sure that the town we love really does fit us and our family ). Unless we absolutely fall in love with a specific town..then we would spend a couple of days in that area to double check!
yup sometimes landlords will offer a month-to-month lease or a 6-month lease. The bigger company owned apartment buildings typically don't do this but smaller buildings privately owned and homes rented out by private landlords typically do... i'm about 15 days away from moving into an apartment in the keene-area and I have a august-june lease, as in june my fiance will be joining me and we'll be able to afford more space than what we're going to be getting seperately
WannaComeHome and NXC9900, thank you very much...most of the rentals that I've done in the past, have been month to month. We usually are lucky enough to find a private or even a house. 6 months would still be okay...even though I am hoping that we can buy right away... I dislike renting... I feel like it is throwing your money away...esp. after owning a house!
wow, I didn't know you could do such a short-term. That was one of the problems we were looking at with DH wanting to be there while our house was being built!
Yeah, dz, he feels exactly the same way - that's why he doesn't want to rent a u-store-it, because he doesn't like renting.
