Thanks for the post.....I'll actually be out hunting though so I'll miss it. They should've waited till the end of the seasons to do it. I kind of go crazy in Feb/March waiting for the fishing to start back up and not being able to hunt.

My boyfriend and I ALREADY have the itch to go fishing. We don't care for ice fishing - we like bass fishing!! Can't wait until we're out on the canoe again.

you ever try "striped" bass fishing??? Nothing like hearing that drag scream....
I have barely been able to get myself to try freshwater fishing since I've moved, but I do want to get on some smallmouth this summer and learn trout better. Not much better than football sized bronzebacks in 20-30 feet of water on Lake Erie (my old home)...except a 40'' striper in the surf of course....

I could never get into the ice fishing thing either. Something about staring at a hole in the ice waiting for a flag to go up and reeling in a lethargic fish just never did it for me. I can't bring myself to chase smelt either.

I am in Salem. Its a little congested here, there is some decent bass fishing in the area. I have a friend up on Lake Winnepesauke and I do some fishing there, and i trout fish pretty regularly on the Sacco River in North Conway. What area are you in?

Right on the coast in Hampton. I can walk down to some rocks with my surf rig and be fishing in 5 minutes. I mostly striper fish out of my kayak though up near portsmouth/Rye (daytime) and Newburyport (night). I messed around with some small ponds close to home before the stripers show back up catching largemouth, crappie, and pickerel, and fished the Lamprey river a couple of times in early spring last year for brookies and browns.

I bought fly rods for trout and stripers and practiced casting here and there but I want to use them a lot more this summer and spring. I REALLY need to take my *** up to Winni for smallies and the north country for trout if I can find some time this year. When I lived in Ohio there weren't really any fly fishing opportunities so I never learned.I used to fish club bass tournaments though on the great lakes and miss the smallmouth action.
