You see, that is 'funny' (not as in ha ha) because I read all over that the Upper Valley was GREAT for work...(read any Lebanon promotions like on their website or real estate web pages). Great place to live AND work...

At least I know it's not me. I have been trying to get a job since Sept. 07. I have skills. I have an education. I think there is some 'back way' here for jobs...everyone I see goes to work but for some reason I don't seem to get any calls...(last year I got a few but was only hired temp in the end). I know it was because I was out of the job market so long as a Stay at Home Mom...but now I have 6 months or so of recent job experience and I am lumped back in the huge pool of 'unemployed.' People are going nuts dealing with this for a month or 2--try doing it for 1.5 years...
There does seem to be a "back way" to finding jobs here. It's really a "who you know" area (I imagine most areas other than bigger cities are that way as well) for work. I'm an outsider with no connections to the area so I think that has hurt me in my time here.

I have no connections, really...all the people I worked with and for know I am looking but no one is able to help. (or willing)--this was at my temp job.

We moved here in Sept. 07. My husband got a 2 job offers in a month. I am still waiting..

It's true that people are normally damn frugal here but now it's tightwad city, baby.

This is us too. First we were just frugal, and said we'd only spend on what we need. But the definition of need seems to be getting tighter every month.

a good friend was laid off in October. He was a car salesman and the company had not had one sale in the first three weeks of the month...so he went by the wayside and is still looking for work along with hundreds of other unemployed people.

His wife showed up at her restaurant only to find a note on the front door - CLOSED. That's a bummer way to find out your job no longer exists. the sad thing is, even the fast food joints are not hiring.....
